Business Police Academy
The next academy is scheduled to begin March 22, 2012.
The Roanoke Police Department is currently seeking applications for the Business Police Academy. This seven week course is designed to teach business owners and their employees about how to lessen their chances of becoming victims of crime. The following subjects will be taught:
- Forensic Services
- Worthless Checks
- Shoplifting Prevention
- Vandalism and Graffiti
- Drug Investigations
- Surveillance Equipment
- Alarm/Trespass Programs
- Reporting Incidents
- Counterfeit Currency
- Fraud Trends
- Robbery Prevention
- Workplace Violence
- Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED)/Crime Prevention
- Prostitution/Loitering
- Computer Crimes
Business owners and their employees who work in the Roanoke Valley are eligible to apply and will be given first preference. The Roanoke Police Department reserves the right to deny acceptance to persons with a criminal history. Applicants must be 21 years of age or older. Students who wish to participate in the Roanoke Police Department’s ride along program must undergo a criminal background check. Classes will meet each Tuesday night from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., and the course will conclude with a graduation ceremony.
This course is free of charge to the Roanoke Valley business community.
