Remember To Change Your Smoke Detector Batteries When You "Spring" Forward!

A home fire impacts the life of an American family every 85 seconds. By providing an early warning and critical extra seconds to escape, smoke alarms cut in half your family’s risk of dying in a home fire – but only if they work. So, when you turn your clocks forward on Sunday, March 11, also make a lifesaving change in your household – change the batteries in your smoke alarms! This simple habit takes just a moment, but is the best defense your family has against the devastating effects of a home fire.

This is also a reminder that Roanoke Fire-EMS offers free smoke detectors. To schedule an appointment, call 853-5785. The Fire Department will install these life-saving detectors in your home.

This reminder to Change Your Clock, Change Your Battery comes to you from Roanoke Fire-EMS, the International Association of Fire Chiefs and Energizer Max brand batteries.

Roanoke Fire-EMS encourages all Roanoke residents to practice fire safety steps every day. Remember, fire safety is your personal responsibility and fire prevention precautions DO make a difference! The Fire Prevention Division of the Roanoke Fire-EMS Department offers fireplace safety and/ or home fire safety inspections at no cost. Citizens can call 853-2795 to set up an appointment.
