Lead-Safe Roanoke
Education and Outreach
Lead-Safe Roanoke sponsors and co-sponsors education and outreach events to inform the public about the risks of lead poisoning. Events may be held during Roanoke City Public School events, neighborhood block parties, community events, faith-based gatherings, or visits to day-care providers and landlords. These events are also available to any interested party who are concerned about the risks of lead poisoning.

National Lead Information Center (NLIC) provides the general public and professionals with information about lead hazards and their prevention. NLIC operates under a contract with the U.S.Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) with funding from the EPA, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Healthy Homes and Lead Hazard Control (OHHLHC) was established in 1991 by Congress to eliminate lead-based paint hazards in America's privately-owned and low-income housing. The office enforces HUD's lead-based paint regulations, provides public outreach and technical assistance, and conducts technical studies to help protect children and their families from health and safety hazards in the home.
