INFORMATION ON FEES
There are three types of Collection Fees that may apply to unpaid accounts:
Set-Off Debt Collection Fee of $25
Division of Motor Vehicles, Vehicle Registration Withholding Fee of $20
Administrative Collection Fee of $30
In accordance with state and city code, collection fees may be applied to unpaid accounts. Fees are applied to recover costs associated with collection actions on delinquent accounts. These fees recover court costs, legal fees, postage, and fees charged to the city by state agencies.
The
Set-Off Debt Collection fee of $25
is charged to recover administrative costs associated with debts owed to the City and submitted to the Department of Taxation for offset against state income tax refunds or lottery winnings.
The
Division of Motor Vehicles, Vehicle Registration Withholding Fee of $20
is applied to those accounts in which a "stop" or "hold" is placed against license plate renewals due to unpaid personal property taxes or unpaid parking tickets. Once a "stop" has been placed on the account, license plate renewals may not be issued by the DMV until the personal property taxes, parking tickets and fee are paid in full. This fee is charged to recover costs paid by the city to the Division of Motor Vehicles.
The
Administrative Collection Fee of $30
is applied to all taxes or other charges past due for 30 or more days after a delinquent or past due notice has been generated and not paid. This fee is to recover the costs of mailing notices and applying collection action to taxes or charges.
These three collection fees apply to personal property taxes, real estate taxes, business licenses, parking tickets, and all categories of receivables and invoices such as Emergency Medical Service billings.
Each account, invoice, bill or ticket may incur all three types of fees based on collection actions taken in order to collect the amount owed. Prompt payment of accounts will avoid penalty, interest, and fees being added to the amount due. This link has payment option information:
