Riverside Centre for Research & Technology
The Riverside Centre for Research and Technology (RCRT) is a 25-acre technology park. Located along Jefferson Street and Reserve Avenue, this land has been designated as a redevelopment area. The purchased acreage in the area for the initial site of the (CBI). A $15 million, 100,000 square foot building housing CBI's office and lab facilities was completed, with Luna Innovations its first occupant in September 2006. CBI and Medical Enzymatics moved there in June 2007. Located near Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, this area will also serve as a proving ground for research financed by CBI and conducted on the campuses of and . Additionally, the Carilion Clinic, an outpatient clinic designed to accommodate medical specialists, is constructing an approximately 250,000 square feet clinic building in the area at a cost of $70 million. Cambria Suites, a 127-room, limited-service, all-suite hotel is being built for approximately $14 million. A $27 million parking garage is also under construction and plans for a $58.5 million five-year medical school, teaching medical research as well as preventing, diagnosing and treating illness should open in 2009 or 2010. All told, over $195 million has been or will be invested in the area.
