The Office of Real Estate Valuation (real estate assessor's office) is the city department responsible for appraising all real property at 100% of market value each year. The appraisals are used to calculate the annual real estate tax bill for each property owner in the city. The assessor's office also keeps track of ownership changes, maintains maps of parcel boundaries, updates descriptions of building and property characteristics, keeps track of individuals and properties eligible for exemptions and other forms of property tax relief, and, most importantly, analyzes trends in sales prices, construction costs, and rents to estimate the value of all assessable property. | |
