The boundaries for the Garden City Civic League are: Riverland Road to Yellow Mountain Road; Mount Pleasant Boulevard to the Blue Ridge Parkway Spur; all roads going to Mount Pleasant Boulevard stopping at the city limits; Welcome Valley Road to the city limits. Garden City is a neighborhood that is geographically isolated from the rest of Roanoke as it lies in a valley between several mountains, and is shielded from the City behind Mill Mountain. The neighborhood's setting provides residents with a peaceful quality of life by and large undisturbed by the growth outside its borders. The neighborhood is surburban in nature, mostly single family dwellings, with some commercial developments, an elementary school adjacent to a park and recreation center, and little industry. The rolling typography and the surrounding mountain ridges offer lush, green picturesque views, with the Blue Ridge Parkway just south of the neighborhood. Many residents have lived in the neighborhood for several decades adding to its smalltown atmosphere and stability.
