E-911 Control Center:
The city of Roanoke's E-911 Control Center provides enhanced 9-1-1 service 24 hours a day, while operating electronic communications equipment throughout the city. This center answers and monitors all calls or events coming to 9-1-1 from anywhere in the city of Roanoke, calls after business hours to the public works or child abuse hotlines, fire alarms from city streets, schools, and in city facilities, elevator phones in city facilities, closed circuit television cameras in the Municipal Complex and the Market Square Walkway, and radio communications between police, fire, rescue and hospital personnel. This area also operates the city's Citizen Service Center and the Public Works Dispatch Center. These facilities respond to citizens' non-emergency requests for service and assistance.
The department has an in-house electronics design and maintenance facility, which provides upkeep for all radio communications equipment, pagers, closed- circuit cameras at the city jail and the Market Square Walkway, City Council and Civic Center sound systems, plus the intercom equipment for the city jail, social services, Juvenile Detention Home and city fire stations.
