Roanoke Police use Geographic Policing containing four zones. Each zone has a police lieutenant, responsible for all patrol functions, community policing, school resource officers, personnel assignments and response to citizen concerns, serving as zone commander. Each zone also contains a Community Resource Officer, responsible for facilitating community policing and problem solving initiatives. The zones are:
- East of 581/220 to the city limits, south of the railroad tracks to the city limits, and including downtown.
- East of 581/220 to the city limits, north of the railroad tracks to the city limits.
- West of 581/220 to the city limits, south of the railroad tracks to the city limits.
- West of 581/220 to the city limits, north of the railroad tracks to the city limits.
