Bulk and Brush Collection

OVERVIEW

Curbside Service:
Place your “Big Blue” automated refuse container, your recycling container, and your bulk & brush out to the curb. Do not put them in the street, just close to the curb and away from any vehicles, mailboxes, poles, trees, or low-lying utility lines. All items and containers must be set out no earlier than 7 p.m. the night before your collection day. The containers must then be removed no later than 7a.m. the morning after your collection day. If containers are not removed from the street, a civil penalty can be issued after the third issued warning notice.

Alley Service:
If you participate in alley collection, place your “Big Blue” container and recycling containers in the alley, while still setting your bulk & brush to the street side curb. Do not put them in the street, just close to the curb and away from any vehicles, mailboxes, poles, trees, or low-lying utility lines.

About the Service:

This system offers same-day service for the collection of all your solid waste materials (the refuse in your “Big Blue” container, your recycling, your bulk items, and your brush) on a weekly basis.

You can recycle more items, you no longer have to sort them, and we’ll collect them weekly.

And it’s more cost-effective.
By increasing our efficiency, we can give you these added services without increasing your costs. And we can reduce the amount of waste going to the landfill.

When Are the Collections and What Do I Do?

Each resident’s refuse, recycling, and bulk and brush collection will take place on the same day of the week.

All city residents may now participate in our expanded, weekly recycling program.

For information on your collection day, see below:

Roanoke's Solid Waste
Collection Days

Each resident's refuse, recycling, bulk and brush collection take place on the same day of the week. Please be aware that as many as four or five different trucks could pass through your neighborhood, each collecting one of these items, sometime during your collection day.

Using I-581/US 200 and the main Norfolk Southern Railway tracksto divide the city into quadrants, collection for Northwest will take place on Monday, Northeast on Tuesday, Southeast on Wednesday, and Southwest on Thursday. These quadrants do not necessarily match the quadrants used for postal addresses.
