The Planning Division's mission is to promote excellence in planning, building, and development. We encourage public collaboration and engage best management practices and methods to ensure public safety, environmental protection, and quality architectural design in the City of Roanoke and the region.

What we do:
- Develop and monitor implementation of Roanoke’s long-range comprehensive plan.
- Develop neighborhood and area plans.
- Provide staff to the Planning Commission, Architectural Review Board, and the Board of Zoning Appeals.
- Administer the zoning ordinance, subdivision ordinance, and other regulations relating to land development.
- Operate the Development Assistance Center (DAC) – a one-stop-shop for all development review and permitting. Download Applications, Agreements, Bonds and Schedule of Fees.
