Special Collections: Genealogy Research & Personal Papers

Special Collections

One of the hidden gems of The Virginia Room is Special Collections, a climate control storage area of the library. Among the items stored in Special Collections are genealogy research and personal papers of local genealogists.   Many genealogists have found this collection invaluable when researching their Roanoke area ancestors.

You can see a listing of the collection on the FINDING AIDS section of the Virginia Room’s Digital Collection website.

One of the collections is  THE MARGUERITE TISE COLLECTION
It consists of 16 boxes of Ms. Tise’s research. The majority of the collection is composed of genealogical research related to many families of Floyd County. The collection includes newspaper clippings, vital statistic data, manuscripts, correspondence, photographs, and other miscellaneous documents. There are shorthand notations throughout the collection. The collection is divided into general categories – Surnames, County Records, Manuscripts, and Miscellaneous Records.

Are you interested in donating your genealogy research to the Virginia Room?  If so, call us at 540.853.2073 or send us an email at virginiaroom@gmail.com
