Virginia Room IS open for research Tuesday - Saturday.

Let's Talk About It: Making Sense of the American Civil War.
5 Sessions. 3 Books. One Remarkable Conversation.
February 12 and 27, march 12 and 26, April 9, 7:00pm-8:30pm.
Registration required. All sessions at Gainsboro Library. Call 853-2450 to register.

Staff will get books and materials for researchers during ongoing environmental monitoring. All Virginia Room materials are available to researchers, but due to ongoing enviromental monitoring of the book stacks area, they are not accessible for browsing. We realize the inconvenience, but all materials are available to researchers. Next to the researchers, the preservation and security of the library research collection is our highest priority. The purpose of this monitoring is to ensure that all items will be available to researchers into the next century.

Like the Library of Virginia and Virginia Historical Society, the Virginia Room will be a closed stacks facility until further notice. In a closed stacks library, titles requested by researchers are retrieved by library staff. All the materials are available, but the stacks are not open for browsing. The online catalog www.rvl.info connects researchers with our holdings. Upon completion of Call Slips, providing author, title and call number, materials will be retrieved by library staff. There is no change in access to microfilm and machines.

Virginia Room Hours: Tuesday, Thursday: 10am - 8pm; Wednesday: 10am - 6pm; Friday, Saturday: 10am - 5pm

Questions or concerns, please contact the Virginia Room at 540.853.2073 or email us varoom@roanokeva.gov.

Welcome to the Virginia Room

Welcome to the Virginia Room, Roanoke Public Libraries' collection of historical and genealogical research resources. A non-circulation research library, we comprehensively collect materials for the Commonwealth of Virginia and the Roanoke Valley. This includes items relating to the entire state, and to a lesser degree, those states that are closely tied to Virginia and its people by birth, immigration, migration or by boundary divisions. We are committed to connecting people with the information they seek.
