Vehicle Fueling
Currently, Fleet Management purchases and utilizes B-20 bio diesel, E-10 ethanol, and propane for use in City vehicles/equipment.
Fleet Management uses the Gasboy system to control self-serve pumps which are located at the Public Works Service Center and the Parks & Recreations Department. The system utilizes magnetic strip cards, which must be activated by Fleet Management to control dispensing of fuel in order to capture gallons dispensed and odometer information for each vehicle. The cards are set up by vehicle rather than by user. Fuel consumption data is reported through the Faster Fleet Management System and is utilized by the Fleet Management department in order to bill using departments and maintain vehicle histories. We also provide fueling services to the Roanoke Valley Resource Authority, Roanoke Redevelopment Housing Authority, and Roanoke Public Schools.
