The Roanoke Neighborhood Advocates (RNA) is a thirteen member committee created by City Council. Members of the RNA include those citizens representing the interests of the neighborhood organizations, the private sector, nonprofit service organizations, local government, and interested citizens. Seven of the thirteen members are appointed by City Council with the remaining six seats selected by the RNA appointees with input from recognized City neighborhood organizations. Goals and Strategic Business Plan
Goals of RNA include:
advising City Council and the City's administration concerning existing and proposed public policy affecting the vitality of neighborhoods and neighborhood organizations,
informing neighborhood-based organizations of existing and proposed public policy plus courses of action available to assure that policies support neighborhoods and neighborhood organizations,
advising and assisting neighborhood-based organizations in building their organization's administrative and advocacy capacities,
educating the public regarding policy implications for neighborhoods and, where appropriate, advocate for policy and implementation alternatives,
overseeing preparation of the annual State of the Neighborhoods report to City Council that meets the requirements of Actions NH A10 and A11 of the City of Roanoke's
Vision 2001-2020
Comprehensive Plan.
overseeing the administration of CDBG and City of Roanoke General Fund
Neighborhood Grants
to eligible neighborhood and community organizations.
