Roanoke Police, Roanoke Public Libraries, and NetzSmartz Team Up For On line Safety Course
The Roanoke Police Department has teamed up with the Roanoke Public Libraries to launch the new NetSmartz program in all six of their branches. NetSmartz is designed by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children to educate kids and teens about online safety. The kick off was Wednesday, April 1, from 4 to 6 p.m. at each library branch. Anyone who logs on to a computer in the children's section of each library branch has the opportunity to take the online safety course, take an online test on the information, and print a certificate. Anyone who does this between now and June 27 be rewarded with a ticket to the Salem Red Sox game on June 28, "Internet Safety Night." Those who complete the program will also be entered for a chance to win a flat-screen TV donated by Lee Hartman & Sons and Carilion Credit Union on the night of the game. For more information contact the Roanoke Police Department Computer Crimes Unit at 853-5402 or the Libraries' Youth Service Department at 853-2955.
