Welcome to this special section of Roanoke’s Web site designed to familiarize citizens with the city’s new Clean and Green Campaign.

Roanoke is a place of unparalleled natural beauty. As caretakers of God’s creation, we must take responsibility to do everything in our power to sustain this priceless attribute. Making our city attractive and environmentally sound must be a community effort. That’s where you come in.

On September 18, Council Member Gwen Mason held a press conference to launch this new campaign, designed to accelerate efforts already under way, which you can read about on this site.

As part of the campaign, we’re challenging businesses, civic organizations, and neighborhoods to come together and get involved in cleaning up their properties and protecting our environment. Additionally, expectations and goals for the appearance and condition of our community will be adopted with the intent that will become part of our standards as a city.

The information posted on these pages will help you learn what the city is already doing to keep our city clean and green, and how you can get involved. At first glance it may seem like a monumental task, but there are a number of simple things citizens can do every day that will have a great impact on the protection our environment and our city’s attractiveness.
