Where There's a Will: A collection of short stories for young people, contains the following stories: "Last Wish," the first chapter of Patches on the Same Quilt; "You Ain't Buck-Nekkid & You Got Enough to Eat," winner of the 1996 Lonesome Pine Short Story contest and one of the stories in The Girl who Raced Mules; "Spelldown," winner of the 1999 Lonesome Pine Short Story contest and currently posted on www.applit.com; "You Don't Ever Know"; "Insult to Injury"; "Sharing the Load"; "Little Meg Reddingoode," a "Blue Ridge Red Riding Hood"; and "Where There's A Will."
Roanoke City teacher Kay McGrath, contributed study guides geared to the 6th grade Virginia Standards of Learning. Franklin County teacher Charlotte Web contributed a 3rd grade study guide for the title story.

| Becky Mushko—a retired English teacher from Roanoke City Schools and Ferrum College—writes the humor column “Peevish Advice” for the Smith Mountain Eagle, serves on the Franklin County Book Festival Committee, and blogs (http://peevishpen.blogspot.com). Winner of the Sherwood Anderson Short Story Contest (3 times), the Lonesome Pine Short Story Contest (5 times), the 1996 Bulwer-Lytton Fiction Contest "Worst Western," and the 2001 Smith Mountain Arts Council Fiction Contest, she’s published four books (Patches on the Same Quilt, Peevish Advice, The Girl Who Raced Mules & Other Stories, and Where There’s A Will). Her stories—one of which was nominated for a 1997 Pushcart Prize—have appeared in THEMA, Blue Ridge Traditions, and Virginia Adversaria. She serves on the Board of Governors for the Virginia Writers Club and occasionally conducts writing workshops. She lives in Penhook with her husband, six cats, five dogs, and two horses. |
