Roanoke 100 Miler – Jan. 7 through April 15, 2012
Commit to be fit in 2012 by signing up for the Roanoke 100 Miler. This unique event challenges participants to do 100 miles in 100 days – completely human powered. Walk, run, hike paddle or pedal your way to an average of one mile per day. For a $9 entry fee, you’ll be enrolled and receive consistent e-mail and blog posts with status updates, walking routes and extra motivation from Active Andy, the official promoter. Your registration fees also automatically enters you into random prize drawings throughout the 100 days. The full $19 fee will include all the perks of the lesser entry plus you’ll snag a snazzy Roanoke 100 Miler moisture wicking t-shirt.

The Fallon Urban Cross Obstacle Run – March 24, 2012
Registration opens in Feb.
Fallon Park is home to the areas only official cyclocross course, but on March 24, this course will transform into a unique Urban Cross obstacle course. Pace yourself as you leap, duck and dart through a series of obstacles that will put a smile on your face and make you grimace all in the same breath. Gallop 4 the Greenways – May 12, 2012

Quite possibly the most scenic 5k in the area, the Gallop 4 the Greenways course takes runners and walkers on a tour of the Roanoke River Greenway. The race begins at River’s Edge Sports Complex and meanders through Smith and Wasena parks only to circle back around to finish at River’s Edge. Be sure to stick around after the race for all of the post-race festivities. Your entry fee will score you an official Gallop 4 the Greenways race shirt as well as free entry to the post-race party with live music, food and a few tasty adult beverages to quench your thirst after the race.

Wednesday Night Disco Mountain Bike Series – April and May 2012

Dance your way into the riding season with the Wednesday Night Disco! Come out and join us for a series that will make you want to dance on your pedals on some of Mill Mountain’s grooviest single track. This award winning mountain bike series has categories for men, women and kids from beginner to expert, so stop out and rock your butterfly collar atop your favorite fat-tired two-wheeler.

6-legged 6k on the Greenway – Aug. 5, 2012

Take a jog with your Dog on Aug. 5
at the 6-legged 6k on the Roanoke River Greenway. This unique race challenges you and your furry companion with a starting line at River’s Edge Sports complex following a flat but scenic course all the way down to Vic Thomas Park and back. If your furry friend isn’t up for the 6K challenge, enroll yourselves in the dog walk and enjoy a leisurely stroll down the greenway with fellow dog owners.

Fired Up for a Cure – Sept. 2012

Join us at the Roanoke Civic Center for this 5K run that is geared to spread awareness of breast cancer. Stay tuned to this link for more information in regards to race fees and a course description.

The Great Roanoke Garage Run – Dec. 1, 2012
Registration opens in Oct.
Who needs another boring 5k through city streets? Sign up for the Great Roanoke Garage run and you’ll get high right here in the city. This road race will lead your through city streets and to the top of a series of parking garages. Quite possible the most elevation you’ll ever encounter in a downtown race, this one-of-a-kind event is sure to take your breath away. Save the date on your calendar and stay tuned for more details.
