Task Force on Homelessness

Mission/Vision

The Task Force on Homelessness will strive to reduce the incidence and prevalence of homelessness in the Roanoke Valley. Through a coordinated community effort, we will proactively intervene with individuals and families in crisis to prevent homelessness; target our outreach efforts and facilities to address the varying needs of each different sub-population; and successfully transition people into permanent housing. Homeless individuals and families seeking community assistance (including emergency shelter, transitional housing, and permanent supportive housing) will be referred to the most appropriate program(s) in a timely manner and receive instruction and support on effectively utilizing available services in an effort to become self-supporting. Specialized services will be available to assist homeless persons with a mental illness and/or physical disability. We will continually seek to identify and provide outreach to those clients who remain unserved, under-served or fall between the cracks.

Responsibility

The Task Force serves as the facilitator and coordinator of our community’s efforts to prevent, treat, and end homelessness.
