Accident Reports and Report Verification
Welcome to the Roanoke Police Department Report Verification and Accident Report Request Center. As a public service the Police Department makes certain reports available for verification to victims, parties involved in motor vehicle accidents, victims' attorney(s) or their insurance companies.
With the exception of a Motor Vehicle Accident Report, verifications are NOT the actual completed report, but simply proof the complainant/victim made a report and a listing of any stolen articles.
On October 1, 2008 the Roanoke Police Department began using a new system for citizens and insurance companies requesting accident reports.
The system that receives and responds to requests for accident reports is DOCVIEW LLC. If you are a citizen requesting a report simply click on the link below.
If you are a representative of an insurance agency requesting a report you must create an account. To create and account or to request a report if you already have an account click on the link below.
The cost of each report on DOCVIEW is $11. Insurance companies will receive a bill from DocView. Citizens must have a credit card and access to the internet to purchase a report. If a citizen does not have access to the internet or a credit card he/she can visit the Roanoke Police Department at 348 Campbell Avenue, SW and request a report. Reports will not be mailed.
Effective October 15, 2002, a billing/invoice proceess was implemented with the City Billing and Collections Department. The invoice system will now bill $10 only for verifications of reports that have been located and mailed. At the end of the month, an invoice will be sent to the requester and only then will a check need to be sent. Checks are made payable to the City of Roanoke Treasurer's Office, which is located at 215 Church Ave, SW.
The Police Department does not handle any monies since the new process was implemented.
Reports requested in person at the Police Department may be paid in person at the Treasurer's Office.
Report verification for incidents that are not Motor Vehicle Accidents may be requested by completing as much of the “Request for Police Information” form as possible. A copy of the form may be picked up at the Police Department or down loaded by clicking the above highlighted form name. To receive a report verification for an incident that is NOT a motor vehicle crash, visit the Police Department or mail the completed form, along with a self addressed stamped envelope (SASE), to:

Information needed to locate a motor vehicle crash report at “Accident Exchange Information Form” given the drivers by the investigating officers. You can view or print the
Accident Exchange of Information
form by clicking this link to find the locations of the information. Citizens without access to the internet or a credit card, must come to the police department in person to request a copy of a motor vehicle crash report. These citizens will be required to pay the Treasurer's office in advance of receiving their report.
