Planning

To request land to be rezoned in the City or to request a street or alley be closed and/or vacated, you must file a petition to be voted on by the Planning Commission and City Council in public hearings. The process takes approximately three months from the time of filing. Potential petitioners should contact the Department of Planning Building and Development at (540) 853-1730 to meet with staff prior to filing.
