Fire-EMS
A permit is required for a bonfire within the City of Roanoke. The permit is issued by the Roanoke Fire-EMS Fire Prevention Division. There is a $45.00 permit fee. Please be advised that approval of this request does not exempt or excuse any owner or other person from the consequences, liabilities, damages, or injuries that may result from open burning.
This permit is restricted to the following conditions:
- The E911 Center in the City of Roanoke must be contacted prior to commencing to burn at 853-2411 or 853-2442.
- You must use clean, dry fire wood. The size of the fire is limited to 5'x5'x5'.
- The fire shall not be less than 50 feet from any structure or wooded areas.
- Do not burn on days with high wind velocity (approximately 15 miles per hour or stronger). Roanoke Fire-EMS may be consulted to confirm whether wind velocity is great enough to constitute a fire hazard.
- The fire must be attended at all times during burning.
- Provide means to extinguish the fire at any time it becomes necessary. Means must be approved by Roanoke Fire-EMS.
- This permit may be revoked if any of the conditions are violated. Revocation of the permit may subject the permit owner to a Notice of Violation with any applicable penalties and/or a court appearance.
