Are YOU at Risk?

Try this self-test

Look over the following questions. Think about how you are being treated and how you treat your partner. Remember, when one person scares, hurts or continually puts down the other person, it is abuse.

Does your partner:

1._____ Embarrass or make fun of you in front of your friends or family?

2._____ Put down your accomplishments or goals?

3._____ Make you feel like you are unable to make decisions?

4._____ Use intimidations or threats to gain compliance?

5._____ Tell you that you are nothing without them?

6._____ Treat you roughly (grab, push, pinch, shove or hit you)?

7._____ Call you several times a night or show up to make sure you are where you said you would be?

8._____ Use drugs or alcohol as an excuse for saying hurtful things or abusing you?

9._____ Blame you for the way they feel or act?

10.____ Pressure you sexually for things you aren't ready for?

11.____ Make you feel like there "is no way out" of the relationship?

12.____ Prevent you from doing things you want (e.g. spending time with your friends or family)?

13.____ Try to keep you from leaving after a fight?

14.____ Leave you somewhere after a fight to "teach you a lesson"?

Do you:

1.____ Sometimes feel scared of how your partner will act?

2.____ Constantly make excuses to other people for you partner's behavior?

3.____ Believe you can help your partner change if only you changed something about yourself?

4.____ Try not to do anything to cause conflict or make your partner angry?

5.____ Feel like no matter what you do, your partner is never happy with you?

6.____ Always do what your partner wants you to do instead of what you want?

7.____ Stay with your partner because you are afraid of what will happen to you when you break up?

If any of these are happening in your relationship, talk to someone.
Without some help, the abuse will continue.
