The Greenest Loser Contest
Citizens for Clean and Green, the City of Roanoke, and WDBJ-7 present the Greenest Loser contest!
The Greenest Loser will pit real City of Roanoke families against each other to see who can reduce their energy consumption the most over a four-week period. We’re looking for three to four families who have wanted to go green but just aren’t sure how. Contestants will receive a crash-course in energy efficiency and will be set loose to come up with the most creative ways to reduce their carbon footprint. With the help of Leo Hirsbrunner and WDBJ-7 News, contestants will get to show off with weekly progress updates, including on-air interviews and walkthroughs of the their home.
The winning family will be the one who has reduced their energy use the most over the same period last year, as determined by their use of electricity and natural gas, as well as their vehicle miles.
For this contest, it’s all about behavior: You don’t need to go out and buy new appliances or a hybrid vehicle to go green – chances are, there are a few things you can do in your home right away that won’t cost you a dime, can have a dramatic impact on your energy use, and can even save you some money! Citizens for Clean and Green hopes that by creating some friendly competition in the Valley, everyone in Roanoke will see that it’s easy to go green.
And of course, there are prizes: The winning family will receive a new Energy Star refrigerator, the second place winner will receive a new Energy Star washing machine, and everyone will get a collection of cool, green products.
