A great deal of avoidable waste and pollution is created in Roanoke each and every working day. So as part of the Clean and Green Campaign, city officials and staff have developed a “greening the office” checklist, which enables businesses to gather practical information about your office and the environmental impact of your current business practices. By putting these simple environmental strategies into action, it is likely that your business will realize a number of cost savings. Plus, you’ll know that your business is being a proactive guardian of our beautiful city.

The City of Roanoke is committed to sound environmental stewardship, and is engaged in a number of strategies to save energy, save resources, and reduce our carbon footprint. But it might be surprising to learn that the city’s facilities and operations only account for about 1.9 percent of the total amount of greenhouse gases generated within the city limits. To really work towards the goal of a cleaner and greener city, we need the participation of as many local businesses as possible.

With every new commitment from the business community, we can collectively do more to make Roanoke the cleanest and greenest city in Virginia. In appreciation for your help, the city will be advertising the positive environmental practices local businesses are undertaking by awarding “Clean and Green” designations.
