The Wildwood Civic League neighborhood includes the 460 East area including Idlewild Park, Kenwood, Vineyard Gardens, East Gate and Jackson Park areas of Roanoke. The undulating terrain of the neighborhood contributes to the rural character of this neighborhood that many residents have cited as one of the greatest attributes of the area. Despite a considerable amount of commercial development and increased traffic levels in recent years, residents continue to describe their neighborhood as quiet and removed from the urban environment of the City, yet with the convenience of the City not far away. The neighborhood has a wide array of land uses including two golfcourse/country clubs, Thrasher Park - an almost 22 acre site popular for picnics and recreation, industrial districts including the Roanoke Center for Industry and Technology (RCIT), Enterprise Zones, single family subdivisions including some of the newest construction in the City, and numerous commercial establishments.
Established in 1934, it is one of the oldest civic organizations in the USA
