The Roanoke Valley Resource Authority is the governing body of non-hazardous, non-recyclable solid waste disposal. Trash is collected from city homes by Solid Waste Management on a weekly basis and transported to the Tinker Creek Transfer Station. Each evening, the Waste Line Express delivers the waste to Smith Mountain Gap Landfill by rail. Capacity until 2050 is in place.
