Fleet Management's responsibilities include the following: Repair and maintain 844 pieces of vehicles/equipment; procure, store and distribute gasoline, diesel fuel and all other usable alternative fuels; procure parts via an operating contract the City has with General Parts Company (NAPA); assist the Risk Management Officer on accident and insurance costs; develop annual capital vehicle/equipment replacement listing; provide road and field service repairs on disabled and non-movable equipment; manage and coordinate repairs on vehicle involved in traffic accidents, vandalism, and theft; and provide support for other city departments during snow, ice and any other emergencies.
Vehicle/Equipment replacement purchasing decisions are predicated on utilizing state-of-the-art fuel technology and engineering practices. As a result, the fleet vehicle/equipment "mix" both currently and in the near future is and will be a composite of hybrid vehicles, electric vehicles, and all other appropriate and efficient alternative fuel vehicles/equipment. | |
