The e-government concept encompasses Internet and other technologies such as Automated Voice Response (AVR), kiosks, and telephony solutions which provide multiple avenues for citizens to transact business with the city. The functionality of the City's Internet site was at one time primarily content and information; the current focus is centered on business functionality available 24-hours a day, seven days a week at the convenience and location of the customer. Departments are responsible for managing their own pages utilizing a central web-content management system; each department has a designated "PageMaster" trained in how to develop and manage web pages.
The Technology Planning team is currently working on the development of a comprehensive Employee self-service system which integrates with many legacy applications. The team has been busy building a secure e-business infrastructure utilizing Websphere, HostPublisher, Java, and Lotus Notes. Future internet/intranet development will further utilize the benefits of these technology components. |
