Parks and Arts: Celebrating Roanoke Neighborhoods

"Parks and Arts: Celebrating Roanoke Neighborhoods" will be returning to our neighborhoods during the summer of 2016 between June and August.

As with previous years, Parks and Arts: Celebrating Roanoke Neighborhoods events offer FREE performing and visual art events in selected neighborhood parks.  This venue provides an opportunity for a variety of artists, musicians, dancers and arts organizations to:
  • showcase their talents while engaging the surrounding residents in the arts, and
  • promoting our neighborhoods’ many cultural and historic resources.
Neighborhood organizations interested in having a Parks and Arts: Celebrating Roanoke Neighborhoods event take place in their neighborhood park are asked to complete an application asking them to:

  • Identify a park where they would like to see an event held.
  • participate in the event, i.e. as a food vendor, as volunteers, by providing other activities showcasing local neighborhood talent, youth activities or other activities complementing the “Arts and Parks’ program.
  • promote the event and help get the word out to the neighborhood at large.
  • Identify other partners the neighborhood organization will engage such as libraries, schools, nonprofits and others to possibly participate and/or market the event.
  • Identify at least one member from their organization to serve on the Parks and Arts Planning Committee.
Applications from neighborhood organizations are due by December 31, 2015.

Attending a Parks and Arts:  Celebrating Roanoke Neighborhoods event is an afternoon full of fun and entertainment in your neighborhood or one close by.  Imagine a Saturday afternoon between June and September when a Parks and Recreation stage pulls up in your neighborhood park to present a concert by performers your neighborhood organization helped to select to entertain your community.  Along with the performing artists on stage, also imagine local visual artists sharing their skills with neighbors and youth by providing them with hands-on demonstrations of their craft. You will not want to miss this exciting opportunity to participate.

Performing and visual artists interested in showcasing their artistic talents are also asked to submit an application indicating their interest in participating in a Parks and Arts: Celebrating Roanoke Neighborhoods event.

Applications, photos and references can also be mailed or hand delivered to the Roanoke Arts Commission offices in care of:
City of Roanoke Dept. of Economic Development
117 W. Church Ave
Roanoke, VA  24011-1905

Late applications will NOT be accepted.  NO EXCEPTIONS.  Payment for services is provided at completion of program.

  • All applications are due by February 14, 2016 by 5;00 pm
  • Artists selection completed by March 10, 2016.
  • Artists notified by March 17, 2016
  • Program begins June 2016 and concludes September 2016
